Hipstamatic
I use the Hipstamatic camera photo app on the iPhone 4 more than any other iPhone app – now there’s a surprise!
Honestly, it is quite infectious to keep snapping things as you begin to see the world through ‘Hipstamatic’ eyes and marvel at how a phone and app can help you create such beautiful images.
The premise is that you are able to apply different pseudo lenses, film and even flash to generate different photo results from the inbuilt iPhone camera. The photo’s created are square shaped and therefore echo of course my other love, instant film.
The Hipstamtic app is currently on the Apple App Store at £1.49 – a snip I reckon.
I shall begin to include Hipstamtic pictures on the Polajoy site as I would like to share what I have created so far.
Details about the Hipstamatic app can be found at:

About Me
Hi, i’m Richard Stone and ever since I was a kid I have loved all aspects of photography, being enthralled and often hankering after differing photographic methods and technologies. From my 110 flip camera through to medium format heavy weights (literally) I have experimented with or studied. However, some of my happiest times in photography have been whilst using or witnessing instant photography, from the earliest days of my Aunt’s 1970′s enormous looking Kodak Kodamatic instant camera or a family friends Polaroid SX-70. In the 1980′s I finally managed to afford the new Polaroid Image system camera, much to the scorn of people doing “real” photography with their admittedly great 35mm SLR’s. I knew however there was something special and unique about instant photography that no other could match and felt vindicated once I had learnt for example about David Hockney’s and Andy Warhol’s exploits.
Recently I have discovered two new ares of photography that I am really enjoying. One is the use of a scanner to create ‘Scanogs’ which can be found in the Scanography / Blog pages, whilst the other is the great Hipstamatic app for the Apple iPhone and these ‘Hipstas’ can be found in the Hipstamtic / Blog pages.
So here I am, finally getting my head around the notion of setting up a site dedicated to my love of photography. The name came to me and seemed to fit perfectly.
Polajoy….. and I hope you do enjoy.
Richard.

What is Scanography?
Scanography is a way of creating photographic images without the use of a camera, instead you use…. a scanner!
Now, with the availability of decent scanners as they are often an additional function of desktop printers, there is growing recognition that they can be used to create beautiful images, at your desk – or actually elsewhere as although cumbersome, the scanner is able to be positioned in many places.
The beauty of this medium I find is the level of detail that can be found in a scanned image, similar to a macro image taken with a camera…but different. The key differences are the way light is reflected onto the image, almost wrapping it with light and the second is the extremely shallow depth of field. What I also like is that dependent on the type of scanner you have, you can create an image using multiple passes of the scanner light to create greater depth of colour. What I particularly enjoy is the attention required to composition and how as you to start to investigate and get the old creative juices flowing, you start thinking way ahead about possible subjects and how an image could be constructed.
The above scanogs are my first effort! They are scanogs (is that the word i.e. instead of photos) of an Anemone flower, scanned a couple of times re colour depth and moved ever so slightly to generate an interesting colour mix.
